Yesterday Nike and Kobe Bryant unveiled the lightest basketball shoe to date: the Nike Zoom Kobe V. ”I wanted to push the envelope with a shoe that meets the demands of my style of play,” said Bryant. “The Kobe V is lighter, lower and more stable.” The shoe weights only 10.6 ounces and was actually inspired by the game of soccer. “I watch a lot of soccer and have seen how the best footballers in the world make sharp cuts at top speed in lightweight, low-cutfootwear,” Bryant said. They were designed with two focuses in mind: enhancing support and stability.
The shoes will be available first online via NikeiD on December 26th with a unique marketing campaign also launching that day. The official release date for the U.S. is January 16th, 2010.
Short interview with KB24 and his design team at Nike:

- features a heartbeat traction pattern (for the heart, passion and self-described “maniacal will” Bryant brings to the court), also has a dot-matrix symbol on the front edge of the outsole, representing a codified language sequence.
Beginning on December 10th, you’ll be able to go on the NikeiD website and design your own shoes, although you won’t be able to order them until the 26th. They are also planning on bringing out more design options for 2010. The way Nike is setting things up the options for customizing these shoes will be almost limitless (Nike is planning on giving you options never given before at NikeiD).
In honor of these cold ass shoes coming out this month (which I will be copping on NikeiD) and the Lakers having the best record in the league so far, I present to you probably the best highlight video you’ll ever see in your life:
